Der Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG "Royal" bringt eine der wohl legendaersten Farbgebungen der gesamten Jordan-Historie zurueck. Das Blau-Schwarze Design geht auf das Jahr 1985 zurueck, als Sportfotograf Chuck Kohn Michael Jordan erstmals in diesem Modell ablichtete. Das daraus entstandene Nike-Poster war der erste Moment ueberhaupt, in dem die Oeffentlichkeit Jordan im Air Jordan 1 zu Gesicht bekam.
Der "Royal" galt als bevorzugter Colorway von Michael selbst und war die erste Variante des Air Jordan 1, die in den Verkauf ging. Innerhalb der drei bekanntesten Retro-Farben "Banned" und "Chicago" ist er zugleich die einzige, die Jordan nie auf dem Court trug. Nach dem Original folgten Neuauflagen in den Jahren 2001, 2013 und schliesslich 2017.
